Guidance for Event Sustainability Evaluation

In July 2022, the General Planning Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, GoldenBee Consulting, and Yudao Engineering Consulting (Beijing) Co., Ltd. jointly released this guidance document for how to evaluate the sustainability of major events.

Leveraging Water-Energy Nexus to Address Climate Change: Pumped-Storage Hydroelectricity as a Solution for Mitigating Renewables Curtailment in China

In October 2020, the World Resources Institute released this report on pumped-storage hydroelectricity (PSH), with support from Energy Foundation China. After analyzing current PSH policy and practice in China, the report identifies opportunities to develop more PSH as a viable solution for reducing renewable energy curtailment and coal demand. It also provides policy recommendations for accelerated PSH growth, so as to help healthy renewable energy expansion in the country.

Evaluating Social Health Costs of Air Pollution

Supported by Energy Foundation China, Peking University and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention assessed health effects of air pollution and corresponding medical and mortality costs, to lend support to decisions relevant to air pollution control and public health improvement strategies. In September 2020, the National School of Development at Peking University released this report with their findings.

During 2019 to 2020, Energy Foundation China supported the Institution of Green Economy of the Counsellor’s Office of the State Council to carry out a research on integrated national territory spatial planning and the role of key environmental element in this process. The findings were released in this report in July.

Reaching WHO-III Air Quality Levels in the Pearl River Delta Region

In 2020, Energy Foundation China supported the Guangdong Provincial Academy of Environmental Sciences to design a medium- and long-term air quality strategy for the Pearl River Delta region in the province. In this report, researchers first identified the air quality and pollution control gap between international leading level and the current practice in the Pearl River Delta region, one of the most densely urbanized areas in the world, then they proposed pathways for the region and the entire Guangdong Province to achieve WHO-III air quality standards by 2030–2035. The report provides forward-looking guidance and impetus for regulators at all levels to raise air quality ambition and enhance green development in Guangdong.

China’s Medium- and Long-term Air Quality Improvement Pathways and Health Benefits

In 2019, Energy Foundation China supported Tsinghua University to explore ambitious clean air targets and their achievement pathways in China for 2030 and 2050. The findings were published in this report in January 2020.
