Environmental and Climate Benefit of China’s Investment in Intermittent Renewable Energy
Environmental and Climate Benefit of China’s Investment in Intermittent Renewable Energy
In July 2023, with the support of Energy Foundation China, Nanjing University and Tsinghua University jointly released this research report evaluating the environmental and climate benefit of China’s investment in intermittent renewable energy resources such as solar and wind power.
The research aims to identify the spatial and temporal heterogeneity of the synergistic benefit between emission reductions and environmental improvements by China’s investment into renewable energy. Based on its key findings, the research proposes an optimized spatial layout for renewable energy investment across different regions in China. The research further explores the impact of power market reform and energy storage investment on enhancing the co-benefit.
The report also proposes differentiated incentive policy recommendations based on the heterogeneity of the co-benefit, in hopes of helping ensure a stable energy supply that contributes to China’s low carbon transition.
