In 2023, with the support of Energy Foundation China, the International Institute of Green Finance at the Central University of Finance and Economics published this research report discussing how green finance can support the low carbon transition and development of key industries in Suzhou, a manufacturing city in eastern China.

Based on analysis of Suzhou’s industrial structure and carbon emissions, this report selects textile and information & communication technology as two typical industries in the city, and discusses a feasible roadmap for supporting the low-carbon transition of carbon-intensive and emerging industries through green finance.

This report also formulates suggestions on how to use financial tools for the transition. The authors hope their findings can be helpful, as China seeks to stimulate the financial market and develop best practices for finance playing a bigger role in the low-carbon transition.
