Pathway and Action for Low Carbon and High-Quality Development of Buildings in Beijing
In July 2022, with the support of Energy Foundation China, the Beijing Association of Sustainable Development released this report exploring how Beijing’s buildings sector can grow in a healthier way and emit less greenhouse gases.
Based on field visits and interviews in parts of Beijing, authors of the report first summarize the barriers the capital city’s buildings sector faces in terms of lowering its carbon emissions. Considering both China’s and Beijing’s carbon emissions control strategies and action plans, the report then proposes goals and a pathway for the low carbon and high-quality development of the local sector toward 2025, 2030, and 2035, before it suggests specific actions to take during the 14th Five-Year Plan period of 2021–2025. The authors hope the report can provide empirical evidence and recommendations as Beijing develops buildings-related planning for the next five years.
