In September 2021, with the support of Energy Foundation China, the Beijing Association of Sustainable Development and the ZKHY Energy Internet Research Institute released this report analyzing how Beijing has conducted building energy saving and clean heating retrofits in its rural areas.

The report summarizes relevant policies and their implementation based on Beijing’s rural residential energy consumption data the authors collected for 2006, 2013, 2018, and 2020. It also evaluates various technical retrofitting solutions. The authors hope the report can help with the selection of feasible solutions and financial incentives for clean heating in more of the capital city’s mountainous rural areas. They hope it can also inspire similar work in Northern China.
