Case Studies on Projects Developed by Local Governments and Enterprises to Promote Individual Low-Carbon Consumption Behaviors in China
In 2021, with support from Energy Foundation China, the Natural Resources Defense Council released this case study report about individual low-carbon consumption behaviors in China.
The report introduces and analyzes the efforts of local governments, including those in the major metropolitan areas of Wuhan, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, and Guangdong Province, and leading enterprises to promote low-carbon consumption among individuals. Researchers hope it can help identify effective mechanisms for curbing individual’s carbon emissions derived from consumption.
To achieve the 2030 carbon peaking and 2060 carbon neutrality goals early, it is important for China to promote a low carbon lifestyle among its urban citizens, in addition to its continued efforts to accelerate the transition to cleaner energy production. This report provides recommendations for building a low-carbon consumption environment and promoting individual behavior change in the future.
