Evaluation of Fuel Cell Vehicle Application and Hydrogen Energy Supply in Zhangjiakou Competition Zone of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022
In June 2023, with the support of Energy Foundation China, Zhangjiakou Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Company released this research report evaluating the performance of fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen energy supply in Zhangjiakou, one of the three competition zones of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.
The world’s largest fuel cell vehicle demonstration was launched for the 2022 Winter Games, laying a foundation for the feasibility of large-scale promotion and application of fuel cell vehicles in China. This report evaluates the operating characteristics of fuel cell vehicles, hydrogen supply infrastructure capabilities, hydrogen safety, and environmental benefits during the Olympics, before it summarizes good experience for the coordinated development of low carbon hydrogen production and applications. The report also analyzes the disposal and re-utilization of the vehicles after the Games and the sustainable development of hydrogen supply infrastructure.
The report puts forward policy suggestions including improving the hydrogen production pricing mechanisms, optimizing subsidies, guiding the diversified and large-scale utilization of hydrogen energy, and strengthening technological innovation in product reliability and fuel economy. The authors of the report hope it can help provide scientific evidence for similar efforts in other places and for the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles in the future.
