Strategy and Policy for Electrifying Medium- and Heavy-Duty Trucks in Hainan
Strategy and Policy for Electrifying Medium- and Heavy-Duty Trucks in Hainan
In November 2022, with the support of Energy Foundation China, the China Auto Information Technology (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. and the Hainan New Energy Vehicle Promotion Center published this report making recommendations on the strategy and policy Hainan Province can use to accelerate its electrification transformation of medium- and heavy-duty trucks. The island province at China’s southernmost point has shown great ambition of electrifying all vehicles.
The report analyzes three typical application scenarios (i.e. transport for port, industrial, and engineering services) of medium- and heavy-duty trucks in Hainan, their matching vehicle models, and total ownership costs. Based on the electrification potential of the trucks in different application scenarios, the report develops corresponding electrification strategies and targets for each scenario, predicts their annual energy-saving and emission reduction benefits by 2030, and suggests an implementation pathway toward the proposed 2030 target of 20 percent electrification penetration for all medium and heavy-duty trucks in Hainan.
