In October 2022, the China Academy of Transportation Sciences released this report presenting viable near-zero emissions strategies and pathways in China’s transportation sector after the country sets the carbon neutrality goal. The research was supported by Energy Foundation China.

As China launches its carbon policy framework that contains an umbrella strategy and more than a dozen sectoral and thematic plans, this report researches on the structural changes for a decarbonized transportation sector, the transformation of intercity transport, the emissions reductions potential of heavy-duty trucks, as well as the pathways toward shared, intelligent, and electrified urban travel. The research used a newly developed integrated model called T3E-SAM, which covers transportation, economics, energy, and environmental aspects.
