In July 2022, Automotive Data of China Co., Ltd. released this report quantifying the total cost of ownership (TCO) of commercial vehicles in China and comparing the cost between China and the U.S. The research was conducted with the support of Energy Foundation China.

Divided by different models and application scenarios, the report calculates and predicts China’s commercial vehicles’ TCO, considering factors such as cost for key components, fuel, and maintenance, and the vehicles’ residual value. This report also quantifies their environmental impacts. By comparing the TCO values of battery electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles, and traditional diesel trucks in China and the U.S., this report puts forward suggestions for how to deploy electric commercial vehicles faster in China, such as establishing a fuel economy credits system and adopting economic incentives.
