Survey on Public Attitudes Towards Policies on Car Plate Control and Road Restriction
In May 2020, Ipsos Consulting, with support from Energy Foundation China, released this survey summary report on how the Chinese public view different car plate control and road restriction policies.
The researchers reviewed the current car plate control and traffic restriction policies in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Hainan province. After surveying the residents’ travel experiences and their perception of different types of road management policies, they found that residents generally support the concept of green transportation and wish to see the government making great effort to develop and improve the public transportation system. In addition to that, the researchers studied the experiences of residents in places with car purchase limit, and, accordingly, made recommendations to local policymakers in how to improve the limit and traffic management policies.
