In 2018, Beijing Institute of Technology released a research paper to evaluate the energy efficiency and technology effectiveness of electric vehicles on the road, The project was supported by Energy Foundation China.

This research collects electric vehicle data from private users in the Beijing area, and analyzes energy efficiency and technological maturity of the vehicles. The result reveals that technology, driving behavior, and real-world road conditions would largely affect the safety and efficiency of electric vehicles. This research could help address key issues Chinese cities are facing when they promote electric vehicles, and thus support technological upgrading and market expansion.
