Case Study of Renewable Energy Development in ASEAN Countries
Since the beginning of 2019, Energy Foundation China has supported the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute to study on clean energy development and cooperation among members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Working with six other research organizations, the institute finished this report on renewable energy in November 2020.
This report summarizes the current status and existing problems of renewable energy development in ASEAN countries, selects Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam for case analysis, and puts forward suggestions regarding how to strengthen regional interconnection, implement policy incentives, and reduce renewable energy costs in ASEAN countries. The report also identifies the future trends in renewable energy for different types of ASEAN countries, an effort that can help explore local pathways for renewable growth in a region of 650 million inhabitants.
