In April 2023, with the support of Energy Foundation China, the China Chain Store and Franchise Association published this report about how the retail sector can accelerate their decarbonization action.

Against the background of China’s green transformation, this report summarizes domestic and international experiences in how to make retail businesses greener and lower carbon, examines cases of 33 typical Chinese retailers and 23 international retailers, and reviews literature in this field. Under the guidance of sustainable development experts, the report identifies strategic and technical pathways for the low carbon development of the retail sector, as well key components of the pathways. After analyzing the current status of green development in the sector, viable innovations, and future trends, the report also provides suggestions on how to deal with the challenges in the green transformation of the fast-growing retail sector.
