A joint effort by experts from China National Institute of Standardization, Peking University, and the cooling industry, this scoping study report was released in November 2020 with support from Energy Foundation China. It calculates the energy-saving potentials of five major sectors —household appliances, industrial and commercial refrigeration, industrial and commercial air conditioning, data centers, and transport air conditioning—and 29 types of key products under the refrigeration and air conditioning industry in different scenarios for the next decade. The study identifies the most promising electricity-saving sectors and provides recommendations on minimum energy performance standard development/revision, energy labelling, and incentives that could be implemented for the next three to five years.
