In July 2022, the General Planning Department of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, GoldenBee Consulting, and Yudao Engineering Consulting (Beijing) Co., Ltd. jointly released this guidance document for how to evaluate the sustainability of major events. The guidance was prepared by GoldenBee, with the support of Energy Foundation China.

It identifies the overall objectives, content, methodology, and process for the sustainability evaluation of major events. It includes 35 indicators covering seven categories, including infrastructure and venues; purchasing and resource management; the environment; transport; climate change; staff and the public; and intelligence and innovation.

The guidance is China’s first comprehensive evaluation standard in the field of sustainable management of large-scale events, integrating the practical sustainability experience of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and many previous Olympic Games.
