Chinese Power System Transformation
In 2019, the China Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute and the International Energy Agency (IEA) released this report with support from Energy Foundation China.
It reviews the current status of the Chinese power system and the transformation of the global power system, including having a comprehensive look at all the possible sources of electric power system flexibility, a detailed discussion of optimal market, policy, and regulatory frameworks, and an exploration of how to improve the flexibility of power system operations. Also, it conducts a detailed model analysis of the Chinese power system in 2035 based on model scenarios in IEA’s World Energy Outlook 2018. The model findings evaluate the impacts of the establishment of a spot market, the optimization of inter-provincial and inter-regional power trade, and the activation of the systematic flexibility resources on the transformation of the system.
