An Action Plan for Green and Efficient Cooling for Hainan Province
An Action Plan for Green and Efficient Cooling for Hainan Province
In June 2022, Hainan Research Academy of Environmental Sciences published their analysis for a green cooling action plan for the tropical island province, with support from Energy Foundation China.
The report first reviews leading policies, actions, and technologies in the world’s cooling sector, then examines the current usage of cooling in the commercial, residential, automobile, and cold chain logistics industries in Hainan, as well as the utilization, oversight, and phase-out of ozone depleting substances. Taking into consideration the characteristics of Hainan’s climate, geography, population, and industrial structure conditions, the research proposes improvement actions for each of the four industries using cooling, and through a scenario analysis calculates their energy conservation and emissions reductions potential brought by these actions and policies.
The authors hope this report can help provide scientific evidence for the sustainable development of a free trade port in China’s southernmost province, and contribute to the implementation of its provincial 14th Five-Year Plan for Climate Change (2021–2025).
