Energy Foundation China, or EF China, has started its initiative Climate Leader Plants on Tuesday to select role model from enterprises in cutting emission and saving energy.
The non-profit organization was formed under partnership of foundations including The Pew Charitable Trusts and The Rockefeller Foundation in 1999. Within its Climate Leader Plants initiative, it will assess qualified companies and enterprises in aspects such as carbon emission, reaction to climate change, corporation social responsibility and industrial impact.

Fighting Trump on Climate, California Becomes a Global Force
LOS ANGELES — The environmental ministers of Canada and Mexico went to San Francisco last month to sign a global pact — drafted largely by California — to lower planet-warming greenhouse pollution. Gov. Jerry Brown flies to China next month to meet with climate leaders there on a campaign to curb global warming.

The two-day Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation concluded on May 15 in Beijing. A total of 68 nations and international organizations signed cooperation agreements with China over the course of the event. The forum also led to more than 270 outcomes and a joint communiqué.

While many are wondering whether US president-elect Donald Trump will keep the US in historic Paris Agreement on climate change, China has stepped up efforts to address the problem. Among those efforts has been shuttering coal-fired power plants or upgrading coal-burning technology, in order to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide. The Global Times recently looked into several coal projects in Beijing's eastern suburbs, where villagers have been dependent for years on coal-fired furnaces to heat their homes during the winter.
