EF China Hosts International Philanthropy and Think Tank Roundtable With Chinese Climate Officials in LA
On November 9, 2023, Energy Foundation China (EF China) hosted a roundtable for international climate philanthropies and think tanks in Los Angeles, California, inviting high-level climate officials from China to meet them and discuss how China and the U.S. can strengthen cooperation in climate governance and decarbonization. Participants of the event, which was held a week before presidents of the two countries was scheduled to meet in California, believed that China-U.S. climate cooperation will usher in more opportunities, while international philanthropies and think tanks can make more contributions to Track-II dialogues and mechanisms between the two countries. They hoped that China-U.S. climate cooperation can help accelerate global energy transition and climate governance, and jointly promote positive outcomes of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Zou Ji, EF China’s CEO and President, moderated the roundtable. Xie Zhenhua, China’s Special Envoy for Climate Change, delivered opening remarks, while Liu Zhenmin, Senior Advisor to the Special Envoy and former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China and Under-Secretary -General of the United Nations, and Su Wei, former Deputy Secretary-General of the National Development and Reform Commission and Advisor to the Special Envoy, as well as staff from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and the Embassy in the U.S. and the Consulate General of Los Angeles, attended the roundtable. International philanthropy and think tank participants included representatives and experts from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Climate Imperative Foundation, the Sequoia Climate Foundation, the ClimateWorks Foundation, the Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation, the California-China Climate Institute, etc.
