Air Quality, Climate Change, and Human Health Forum Held Amid EF China’s 20th Anniversary Celebration

In November 2019, , an Air Quality, Climate Change, and Human Health forum was held at the Beijing International Hotel as one of the celebration events for Energy Foundation China’s 20th Anniversary.

Experts from think tanks, international organizations, and government agencies discussed health impacts of air pollution and climate change, China’s progress toward clean air and its related working plans during the upcoming 14th Five-Year Plan period, and people-oriented air quality management strategies to achieve the co-control of atmospheric pollutants and GHGs. The experts include Zhang Dawei, Deputy Director General of Air Quality Management from China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment; Wang Jian, Deputy Director General of Environmental Impact Assessment and Pollution Management from the same ministry; He Kebin, Dean and Professor of the School of Environment at Tsinghua University, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Vice Chair of the steering committee of the China Clean Air Policy Partnership (CCAPP); Gina McCarthy, Professor of the Practice of Public Health, Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health and former Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and Robert O’Keefe, Vice President of the Health Effects Institute in the U.S.

CCAPP released a report titled “China’s Synergistic Pathways to Air Improvement (2019): New Opportunities With the Blue-Sky Action Plan” at the Forum. The report evaluated the effectiveness of air pollution prevention measures introduced and refined in the national Blue-Sky Action Plan for 2018–2020, as well as opportunities and challenges of the co-management of air pollution and climate change issues.
