On March 23, Energy Foundation China, Center for Finance and Development of Tsinghua University, and European Climate Foundation held the second meeting of the Dialogue Series on Global and China Agenda of Green and Low Carbon Development in Beijing, focusing on China’s Leadership and Infrastructure Investment. Top climate experts from China and abroad participated the dialogue, including Xie Zhenhua, China's Special Representative on Climate Change Affairs; Nicholas Stern, Professor of Economics and Government at the London School of Economics and Political Science; Laurence Tubiana, CEO of the European Climate Foundation; Jonathan Pershing, Program Director of Environment of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, as well as representatives from research institutions, international organizations, think tanks, and financial institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Fiscal Sciences, the World Bank, Delegation of the European Union to China, the Institute for New Economic Thinking, and Industrial Bank.

They focused on China’s leadership in establishing an ambitious 2050 vision and relevant investment in green infrastructure. As China progresses in sustainable development, green energy, and climate mitigation, the international community is expecting it to play a greater role in the global climate governance.

China’s green infrastructure investment at home and abroad, especially along the Belt and Road, opens a window to establish China as a responsible player on the world stage, the experts said. It also provides an opportunity for China to review its carbon targets and emission reduction technologies, improve its green financial system, and optimize its policy and strategy.
